Hypnotherapy

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a relaxing yet powerful psychotherapeutic method which can be used to break negative cycles and thereby change you and your experience of life. Have you ever gone into a trance whilst watching television or started daydreaming whilst driving a car, not knowing how you travelled the last few miles? Well, whilst your conscious mind was daydreaming, your unconscious mind was driving the car. Solution Focused hypnotherapy uses this light trance state to prime new connections in the unconscious mind, creating new, positive ones to bring about therapeutic change. As in a daydream you remain relaxed and in control throughout. It is also a very pleasant and relaxing experience!

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy

As a Clinical Hypnotherapist I specialise in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy which helps the client access their own potential to solve the problems in their life. Utilising both NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) and CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) we focus on the present and future to work towards finding solutions and achieving your goals. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy helps to create new neural pathways, rewiring the brain so you regain control over your thoughts, feelings and emotions to achieve a calm, confident, positive and productive you!

How can Hypnotherapy help?

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is the primary therapy I use to help with mental and emotional conditions including:

Anxiety Depression Insomnia
Stress Anger Negative Patterns
Panic Attacks PTSD OCD
Performance Enhancement Confidence Building Fears & Phobias

All treatments include a free, bespoke hypnotherapy CD or audio MP3 download.

Combined Therapies

Many health problems have a mental, emotional and physical component. By combining hypnotherapy with other therapies, including acupuncture, for a dual approach, can help with many other conditions, including:

Infertility Weight Issues Smoking Addiction
Chronic & Acute Pain Migraines & Headaches Nausea & Vomiting
Fibromyalgia ME Palpitations
Tinnitus Vertigo IBS
Menopause Symptoms PMS High Blood Pressure

EFT (Tapping)

What is EFT?

EFT (or Emotional Freedom Technique), often referred to as Tapping, is a relatively new and fast evolving treatment sometimes referred to as 'psychological acupressure' or 'energy psychology' and is a mind/body technique that works by gently releasing blockages in your energy system. The technique is based on an important discovery that trauma, stress, shock, emotional pain or past emotional programming can cause disruption and blockages in the energy system of the body. EFT treatment involves the use of fingertips rather than needles to tap on the end points of the same energy meridians (channels) used in acupuncture and acupressure treatments.

How can EFT help?

EFT is non-invasive and works on the ethos of making change as simple and as pain-free as possible. EFT allows us to replace negative belief systems and patterns in the subconscious mind, with positive ones. The energy flow is then corrected and restored to natural balance. EFT is an extremely useful technique that I also teach clients, so they can use it themselves anywhere and at anytime.

Acupuncture

What is Acupuncture?

Traditional acupuncture is a healthcare system based on ancient principles which go back nearly two thousand years and looks at pain and illness as signs that the body is out of balance. The overall aim of acupuncture treatment, then, is to restore the body's equilibrium. What makes this system so uniquely suited to modern life is that physical, emotional and mental factors are seen as interdependent, and reflect what many people perceive as the connection between the different aspects of their lives. The focus is on the individual, not their illness, and all the symptoms are seen in relation to each other. Each patient is unique; two people with the same Western diagnosis may well receive different acupuncture treatments.

How can Acupuncture help?

Treatment follows the underlying principle that illness and pain occur when the body's Qi, or vital energy, cannot flow freely. There can be many reasons for this, with emotional and physical stress, poor nutrition or injury amongst the most common. By inserting ultra-fine sterile needles into specific acupuncture points, traditional acupuncture seeks to re-establish the free flow of Qi to restore balance and trigger the body's natural healing response.

Acupuncture is the primary treatment I employ for many physical issues, including:

Back Pain & Sciatica Neck & Shoulder Pain Knee & Ankle Pain
Tennis & Golfer's Elbow Sports Injuries Musculoskeletal Problems
Neurological Disorders Migraines & Headaches Skin Disorders
Gastrointestinal Disorders Nausea & Vomiting Bronchial Disorders

Combined Therapy

Many health problems have a mental, emotional and physical component. By combining acupuncture with other therapies, including hypnotherapy, for a dual approach, can help with many other conditions, including:

Infertility Weight Issues Smoking Addiction
Anxiety Depression Insomnia
Fibromyalgia ME Palpitations
Tinnitus Vertigo IBS
Menopause Symptoms PMS High Blood Pressure

Acupressure Massage

What is Acupressure Massage?

I practise a type of Acupressure Massage known as Tui Na. Pronounced "Twee Nah", it means "push and grasp" and is a form of Chinese body massage. Like Acupuncture, Tui Na uses your body's meridian system and flow of Qi. An emphasis is placed on identifying and correcting pathological or problematic soft tissue, as well as to correct dysfunctional movement patterns.

How can Acupressure Massage help?

Acupressure Massage is both relaxing and energising and can bring about many of the benefits of acupuncture without using needles. It can correct pathological and problematic soft tissue, thereby alleviating muscle pain and aiding your body's movement. I often combine it with acupuncture when treating musculoskeletal problems such as back pain and neck, shoulder and knee pain.

It is applied fully clothed and ideally when loose fitting clothing is worn.

Reiki

What is Reiki?

Reiki, pronounced 'Ray Kee', is an ancient Japanese healing method that works by channelling universal energy (also known as Life Force, Qi, Chi, Ki or Prana). This energy also forms the basis of acupuncture and is likewise used to promote balance and the natural healing of the mind, body and spirit. Reiki is a totally safe, non-invasive method which involves placing the hands on or near the body in order to channel healing universal energy.

How can Reiki help?

Reiki works by raising the vibratory level of the energy field in and around the physical body, breaking down any energy blockages and creating a state of balance. Reiki can be used as a stand alone treatment or can be introduced into other treatments when the client is most receptive to the healing energy.

Mind, Body & QI MOT

The Mind, Body & Qi MOT is an all-in-one treatment used to help maintain a healthy mind, body and energy system. The 2 hour treatment commonly carried out every 6 to 12 months (hence the term MOT) helps to maintain good health and consists of the following:

  • A short consultation to discuss your personal needs
  • Acupressure massage (Tui Na - full body) with extra focus on any problem areas
  • Acupuncture according to your specific requirements
  • Reiki alongside acupuncture
  • Hypnotherapy according to your specific requirements
  • Reiki to complete your treatment

The treatment can be modified to suit your specific needs.
Each MOT includes a free, bespoke hypnotherapy CD or MP3 download

About

Background

I am a scientist by training. After studying for a Ph.D. in Chemistry at Durham University I worked in academia as a Research Fellow at Warwick University. This was followed by 15 years working for a large multinational company, Merck, working up to R&D Manager.

My interest lies in the connection of our minds and bodies with our mental and physical wellbeing. This led me to study a holistic approach to the health of our mind and body.

East-West Therapy

Combining the most up to date Western therapies (Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and EFT) with ancient Eastern therapies (Acupuncture, Acupressure and Reiki) I offer a tailored therapy to balance mind, body and Qi (our vital energy system). Looking at the cause as well as the symptoms, I treat the mind and body as a whole, for a holistic approach to improving health. Since many problems have both a psychological and a physical component, I often combine therapies such as hypnotherapy with acupuncture to achieve the best results.
